No Excuses Show & Tell

February is time for everyone to bring an example of their woodcarving and tell a little something of themselves.  For ten years we have had this event where we each have a chance to stand up and be recognized by the full membership.  We have  many new members that we want to know better.   This gives new members an introduction to the older members, too.

The carvings do not need to be new work nor do they need to be completed.  This event is not a competition. A prize will be given by drawing among those participating.  The purpose is simply for us all to have some fun.  Be certain to bring something for this fun and entertaining event!

Scarlet Fest

John Spall, Lord Gray Wolf,  made arrangements for our club to participate in the Scarletfest Renaissance Festival.  The festival was 1/24 and 1/25 from 10am to 6pm each day.  It was indoors at the OKC Farmers market.
Our club participated in the event by  demonstrating the art of wood carving at the festival.  Several members signed up for 4 hour shifts, working our carving display and participating in a round (literally) table carve in.  You can see a few pictures from the Saturday, 10am to 2pm shift, at the bottom of page two of this news letter.  It was a chilly day outside, but the festival inside was bright and cherry  and much less chilly.  Behind our display table and out of our site (fortunately) was the belly dancing stage.   We made chips fly in rhythm to the boompa pa boom, da da ding dumb da -clang.  The demonstrators had a lot of fun and the visitors were amazed by the talent and artistry displayed.  Carl and Shearlene Tibbets, Larry MacCarron, Pete Melton, Pete Zachry, Evelyn Moore, Richard Dalke, Jon Tillinghast, Steve Brandt, Bob Smith participated.

By-Laws Vote

Kent Wallace and the By-Laws Committee have completed proposed revisions to the existing By-Laws.  These revisions were presented to the membership during the January club meeting.  There will be an opportunity for questions and discussions prior to the vote.  Anyone not receiving a copy of the new By-Laws can contact one of the officers for a copy; plus, copies will be available before the meeting.

 2009 show committee

The show committee, chaired by R. Dalke, announces show Judge, Randy Landen.  Randy  lives in Derby, Kansas, just south of Wichita. His love for caricature carvings began in 1977, when he and his wife Carol bought their first woodcarving at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Although they collect a wide range of subject matter, caricatures dominate their woodcarving collection.

You can learn more about Randy and see his work on his web site at:http://www.cca-carvers.org/landen.html
