Presidential Papers

We will be having Show and Tell at the March general meeting even though the Auction will require most of the time during the session. Those attending the first session of the Flat Plain Carving class with Bruce Futterer are encouraged to bring their piece's so the membership can get a firm idea of what is being done in his class. Be reminded: There are two more one-day session coming on March 23 & 24, a Monday and Tuesday. There are still openings both days, but it is filling up, so get your deposit in as soon as possible.

March is the last month to get your dues in before being dropped from the roster so, please, get your cash, check, or money order to Kent Wallace no later than the March meeting. That is the very best way to say "THANK YOU" to the volunteers who devote a good bit of time and effort to keeping the club going.

I will have copies of the application for the Eastern

Oklahoma Woodcarvers Association Show at this meeting. Their show is held on Friday and Saturday, July 10 & 11, 2009. If you have never been an exhibitor at this show, now is a perfect time to do it. We should have six or eight exhibitors there from OCWC. They really deserve our support. They are truly a great bunch to be around, too. Always fun.

Wichita, Kansas, is coming up in a couple of months, too. They will be having their Great Plains Woodcarving Show on the weekend of May 16 & 17. Their show is a little different in that it combines Woodcarving and Sculpting into a single show. The sculptors have separate judging, of course, but they can really give some good guidance to woodcarvers that want to improve their artistic skill level. I will have application forms for this show available at the March meeting.

Carve-ins are really going strong and growing throughout

AUCTION!, March 9, 2009

Please participate in our fund raising AUCTION, at our March general meeting! Bring your sale items and your $ and thank you in advance!  The success of this fund raiser will help insure a great Show in October.  Remember, meeting time and place, City Arts Center, Fairgrounds at 7pm.
Hello
Wood Carvers!  As you know, our March General meeting program is our annual Auction.  This is one of our clubs main fund raising events.  It is an opportunity to pick up a few things that you may need or desire and at very reasonable prices.  Members traditionally bring wood carving related items to donate for the benefit of the club.  We have seen many great items donated, where the donor suffered great loss and the bidder picked up a great bargain, all, to the clubs benefit!  For example, great,  high quality basswood blocks where the donor  paid premium prices and sold at auction for penny’s on the dollar!

Carving tools, are another buyer opportunity.  We have seen quality tools, valued in the $30 to 40$ range, go for $15 to $20.  But, don’t limit yourselves to carving items, other treasures are welcome.  We hope Marilyn will bring her home made jelly.  And others have cheerfully donated home made delights, like cookies and breads.  Also, many craft items, clothing, boots, and other valuables come to this market.

Just remember, one carvers junk is another’s treasure!
